Box Score High Point, N.C. – Playing in its first road game in a month, Furman men's lacrosse dropped a 10-3 decision at High Point on Saturday afternoon. The loss moves Furman to 2-7 on the year and 1-2 in SoCon play, while the win moves the Panthers to 5-5 on the year and 1-1 in SoCon action.
Furman was led by Clay Adams with two goals, while Kenny Meinsen added one. Four players caused a turnover and Adams also picked up a team-high three ground balls. Reilly McDermott turned in another double-digit save game, recording 13.
Dan Lomas led High Point with three goals, while Michael Leclair and Jason Ashwood each added two. Leclair and T Moyer each dished out two assists, while Jamie Piluso was 11-14 from the face-off 'X' and picked up a team-high six ground balls.
Both teams started off strong defensively, with neither team scoring a goal until Clay Adams netted his first of the day with 4:08 remaining in the first. High Point responded with a goal two and a half minutes later to tie the game at one heading into the second. It was all Panthers in the second quarter, as High Point reeled off five-straight goals to send the game to halftime with the Panthers leading 6-1.
High Point pushed its lead to 7-1 with 12:17 remaining in the third period, before Kenny Meinsen scored his first goal of the day to cut the lead to 7-2 heading into the fourth. The Panthers pushed their lead to 10-2 over the first 14 minutes of the fourth period, before Clay Adams scored with 20 seconds remaining to cut the lead to 10-3 at the final horn.
Furman continues SoCon play next weekend, traveling to Richmond for a 1:30 p.m. matchup with the Spiders.
