Greenville, S.C. -- Right-hander Lindsey Bert tossed a four-hit shutout and first baseman AnnaRose Borrelli drove in three runs, including a two-run homer in the sixth inning, to lead Furman to a 4-0 victory over Akron in the finale of the Upstate Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium.

Bert (3-4) fanned three batters and faced just two batters over the minimum en route to her second win of the weekend. She retired the final six batters she faced and did not issue a walk.

Furman (5-6) loaded the bases with three singles in the second inning, but Akron worked out of the jam to keep the game scoreless. In the third inning, Sieara Bishop drew a leadoff walk and Candace Johnson lined a single up the middle. After a fielder's choice erased Johnson and pinch runner Sarah Windham swiped second base, Elise Smith delivered a sacrifice fly to put Furman in front and Borrelli doubled the lead with an RBI single to center field.

Smith was hit by a pitch with one out in the sixth and Borrelli doubled the Paladin lead again by belting a two-run shot to left field, her third homer of the week.

Sophomore Emma Ogburn, who went 3-for-3 with four RBI on Saturday night, continued her on base streak by going 2-for-2 with a walk in the victory over the Zips (2-8). Borrelli went 2-for-3.

Erin Seiler (2-4) suffered the loss for Akron allowing four runs on seven hits in six innings. She walked two Paladins and notched three strikeouts.

The Paladins return to action next Friday, Saturday and Sunday when they co-host the Spartan Classic at Pepsi Stadium.
