Box Score Greenville, S.C. – Behind six goals from Devon Horine, Furman women's lacrosse out-scored St. Francis 12-1 in the second half to rout the Red Flash, 18-6, on Tuesday night in Paladin Stadium. The win moves Furman to an even 2-2 on the year, while the loss drops St. Francis to 1-2 on the year.
Horine just missed tying a school record for single-game goals, while adding an assist and three ground balls. Abby Shields and Hannah Feinberg each also recorded a hat trick, while goalie Maggie Friel made 10 saves. Furman won 15 draws on the day and recorded just five turnovers.
The Paladins came out strong on the defensive end to start the game, holding St. Francis off the board for the first five minutes of game time, even though the Flash held possession for most of that time. The Flash took the early 1-0 lead with 25:06 left in the half, before Hannah Feinberg netted back-to-back goals to give Furman the 2-1 advantage with 22:55 to go. Devon Horine scored her first goal of the game to push Furman's lead to 3-1, before St. Francis responded with back-to-back goals to tie the game at three. The teams then traded goals until Ashley Trice converted on a free-position attempt to give Furman the 6-5 lead going into halftime.
Devon Horine immediately opened the scoring for the Paladins in the second half, netting her third goal of the day off the half's opening draw. Furman continued to pile on offensively, as Horine scored back-to-back goals followed by a goal from Abby Shields. Horine scored her third goal of the half before Shields added one more and Feinberg got back in the scoring column to push the lead to 12-5 and force a St. Francis timeout with 17:35 remaining. Furman continued its high efficiency on offense, outscoring the Flash 6-1 over the game's final 17 minutes.
St. Francis was led by Holly Lawrence with two goals, while four other Flash added one. Starting goalie Heather McKee made seven saves, while Christina Fini and Blair Rosenberg each picked up two ground balls.
Furman is back in action on March 6, heading out to California for a three-game stretch against UC Davis, Fresno State and San Diego State.
