Conway, S.C. -- Candace Johnson and Taylor Collins each belted a two-run homer to help Furman to a 9-5 victory over Buffalo on Saturday afternoon as Paladin head coach Kyle Jamieson earned his 100th career victory. The Paladins dropped an 8-2 decision to Memphis in the second game of the day at the Chanticleer Challenge at Coastal Carolina.

Game 1

Jamieson, in his fourth year at the helm of the Paladin program, became the fastest Furman coach to 100 career wins as his team pounded out nine runs on 11 hits versus Buffalo to notch their third consecutive win.

Trailing 1-0 after two and a half innings, Furman got a two-run blast to right field from Johnson in the bottom of the third to take the lead, and the Paladins extended the margin with a five-run fourth inning. Brittany Houston and Collins reached with one-out singles and Sarah Windham made the most of her first collegiate hit by doubling into the gap to drive in a run. Lauren Duggar followed with a two-run single back up the middle. After Johnson singled and stole second Andrea Abbatiello plated a run with a single and Johnson scored off of an error to up the Furman lead to 7-1.

Starter Alex Sappington, who earned the victory to improve to 2-1 in the circle, ran into trouble in the top of the fifth. The senior allowed four runs, including a two-run triple by Katie Weimer and two-run homer from Catrell Robertson. Emily Demonte came on in relief and scattered three hits over two and 1/3 scoreless innings to earn her first save.

Collins capped the scoring for Furman in the bottom of the fifth inning by following Houston's leadoff walk with a two-run blast over the left field fence.

Taylor Light (0-1) took the loss for Buffalo (4-13), allowing seven runs on eight hits over three and 1/3 innings.

Houston went 2-for-2 with a walk for the Paladins, while Collins and Johnson also collected two hits apiece. Duggar scored two runs and drove in two.

Weimer finished 3-for-4 for the Bulls.

Game 2

Memphis (10-15) plated six runs in the top of the second off of Paladin starter Lindsey Bert and cruised to an 8-2 victory over Furman in the second game of the afternoon.

After Furman left the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, the Tigers loaded the bases with nobody out in the second and scored two runs on Calli Irvin's single. Two batters later, No. 9 hitter Regan Hadley hammered a three-run blast to left field to up the margin to 5-0. A single and a walk followed the homer to chase Bert from the game and Brittany Seale greeted Demonte with an RBI single.

Sieara Bishop clubbed a two-run shot over the left field fence in the bottom of the third to cut the margin to 6-2. The home run, Bishop's 22nd career blast, moved her into second on Furman's career list behind Julie Glasser (25 HRs).

The Tigers plated single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to up their lead to 8-2 and pitcher Molly Smith (3-6) recorded nine strikeouts over seven innings to secure the Memphis win. Smith allowed only five hits and walked four in the complete-game effort.

Bert (6-9), who surrendered six runs on five hits in one and 1/3 innings of work suffered the loss.

Bishop went 2-for-4 to lead the Furman offense, while six different Memphis batters collected two hits in a 14-hit outburst.
