Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Whitney Bunn continued her personal blitz of Wofford, scoring a game high 23 points, including 15 in a decisive third quarter, and Cierra Carter tallied a season high 21 points to lead Furman to its sixth straight win with a 69-49 Saturday afternoon victory over the Terriers at Ben Johnson Arena.
In claiming its first road win of the season, Furman improves to 10-9 overall and 3-0 in SoCon play. Wofford, meanwhile, falls to 11-6 on the season and 2-1 in league action.
The victory was Furman's seventh straight over Wofford and fourth conseuctive triumph in Spartanburg.
A year after scoring 26 points in a 70-61 win over Wofford in Spartanburg, Bunn took a while to heat up, but when she reached blue flame temperature it was over the Terriers, who watched the Paladin senior guard drain three consecutive third quarter 3-pointers in a decisive 13-0 run, part of a 20-2 scoring spree that put Furman solidly in control.
Carter was about all Furman had early, helping the Paladins recover from an 11-0 deficit to start the contest. Her 10 first quarter points allowed FU to cut the Terriers' lead to 18-15 following Bunn's first basket of the day, a 3-pointer, with two seconds to go in the opening period.
Bunn and Carter combined for nine second quarter points, and DeAnneisha Jackson's three second period buckets sent Furman into halftime with a 30-29 lead.
The third quarter was all Paladins, as Carter opened the 13-0 burst with a basket, followed by by three straight 3-pointers from Bunn and a Tierra Hodges layup that stretched the Paladins' lead to 43-29 midway through the period.
The Paladins' powerful run continued with an Allison Beasley 3-pointer and pair of Bunn layups that stretched the advantage to 50-31 at the 2:44 mark.
Bunn's performance featured 9-of-20 shooting, including 4-of-9 connections from 3-point range. She also tallied six rebounds and a game high six assists to stretch her Furman career standard to 545. Her 23 points vaulted her from eighth to sixth on the Paladins' career scoring chart (1,465 points).
Carter found the mark on 9-of-16 shots, spiked by 3-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc, and claimed seven rebounds.
DeAnneisha Jackson came off the bench to contribute 10 points and 11 rebounds in 31 minutes of action.
Furman shot 47.5 percent from the field (28-of-59), draining 9-of-22 3-pointers.
Wofford, which got 17 points from Chloe Wanick, hit on eight of its first 14 shots but just 10 of its 35 attempts (28.6%) over the final three quarters.
The Terriers entered the game as the SoCon's top scoring team (67.3 ppg) and Furman the league leader in scoring defense (56.2 ppg).
The Paladins play at Mercer next Thursday.
