No. 3 Florida State Downs Furman Softball In Season Opener At Unconquered Invitational, 5-1

Tallahassee, Fla. -- Florida State's Meghan King limited Furman to an unearned run on three hits and fanned 10 batters to lead the third-ranked Seminoles to a 5-1 victory over the Paladins on Friday afternoon at the Unconquered Invitational at Joanne Graf Field.

Carsyn Gordon put the Seminoles in front with a two-out, two-run triple to center field in the bottom of the first inning after Furman starter Lindsey Bert had issued two walks. Florida State plated three more runs in the bottom of the sixth as Jessica Warren led off the frame with a solo homer, Ellie Cooper delivered a sacrifice fly and Dani Morgan posted a pinch hit single to drive in the final Seminole run.

AnnaRose Borrelli reached base on an error in the seventh and Kalie Hicks put Furman on the board with an RBI double to center field to score pinch runner Hannah Seaver.

King improved to 1-0 in the circle by allowing just one walk and three hits over seven innings. Bert (0-1) allowed five runs on five hits to absorb the loss for the Paladins. She walked four batters and struck out three.

Cash and Hicks each recorded a double for Furman.

The Paladins face Marshall at 6:30 p.m. in the second game of the tourney.
