Box Score Greenville, S.C. -- Junior Jordan Lyons netted a game-high 18 points and senior Matt Rafferty recorded his 10th double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds to propel Furman to a 73-58 victory over Chattanooga in Southern Conference men's basketball action Thursday evening at Timmons Arena.
The win marked the 81st in the careers of Paladin seniors Andrew Brown and Rafferty to make the duo the winningest senior class (81-42) in school history. They passed the 1980 senior class' 80 victories over four seasons. With the victory, Furman also notched its 13th consecutive win at Timmons Arena and improved to 16-4 overall and 5-3 in the SoCon. Chattanooga slipped to 10-11 overall and 5-3 in the league.
Alex Hunter and Noah Gurley drained three-pointers to begin the game and Furman led wire-to-wire for its fourth straight win over Chattanooga and sixth in the last eight series meetings. The Paladins, who shot 54.2% in the opening half to build a 31-23 lead at intermission, connected on 11-of-25 three-point attempts on the night and shot 53.7% from the floor for the game.
Chattanooga got no closer than seven points in the second half and Furman held the Mocs to a 5-for-21 effort from beyond the arc to secure the victory.
Lyons buried 4-of-8 three-point tries to tally his 18 points, while Rafferty connected on 7-of-11 field goal attempts and added six steals and six assists. Hunter finished with 12 points and Gurley totaled 10 to round out the Paladins' double-figure scorers.
Furman recorded 12 steals and totaled 17 assists on 29 baskets to improve to 10-0 at home this season. The Paladins, who held the Mocs to 40% shooting, moved to 48-8 in the facility since the beginning of the 2015-16 campaign and 28-3 versus SoCon opposition.
The Paladins continue their brief homestand on Saturday afternoon when they host the Samford Bulldogs. Tip-off at Timmons Arena is set for 4:30 p.m. and Furman will be celebrating "Legends Weekend" as they welcome Paladin basketball alumni back to campus.
