Strong Fourth Quarter Carries Furman Past Wofford, 63-50

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Le'Jzae Davidson scored a game high 21 points and Furman used a strong fourth quarter to pull away from Wofford en route to a 63-50 victory in women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Timmons Arena.

The win improves Furman to 11-9 on the season and 3-2 in SoCon play while Wofford falls to 10-10 overall and 2-3 in league action with the loss.

The victory also kept Furman unbeaten against Wofford in Greenville, moving the Paladins to 27-0 all-time versus the Terriers.

With the game tied 38-38 after three quarters, the Paladins opened the fourth period with a 10-0 run to take control.  Jade Kirisome's 3-pointer broke the deadlock, and Kaitlyn Duncan followed with a steal and layup to give the Paladins a 43-38 lead.  Davidson then finished off the spurt with a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer to stretch Furman's advantage to 48-38 less than three minutes into the period.

Chloe Wanink's jump shot halted the Paladins' run, but Furman's Tierra Hodges followed with a three-point play and Milica Manojlovic's jumper at the 5:31 mark put the Paladins in control, 53-40.

Davidson, who sat out the final eight minutes of the third quarter after picking up her third foul, scored 10 of her 21 points in the decisive fourth period that saw Furman connect of 8-of-16 shots and all six free throw attempts.

Celena Taborn tallied 12 points and eight rebounds, while Tierra Hodges notched a double-double, combining 11 points with a game high 12 rebounds.  For the game Furman posted a 49-37 edge on the glass.

Chloe Wanink paced Wofford with 19 points, and Cairo Booker had 13.

With Davidson on the bench for much of the third period, Wofford steadily cut into Furman's 30-20 advantage behind Wanink, who tallied 13 of her team high 19 points in the frame, including the period's final five points that tied the contest at 38-38.

Wofford, which entered the game leading the SoCon in field goal and 3-point field goal percentage, shot just 32.8 percent from the field (19x58) and 26.3 percent (5x19) from beyond the arc.

Furman, the SoCon's top free throw shooting squad, made 11-of-14 from the stripe.

Kaitlyn Duncan registered 10 rebounds and a claimed five of the Paladins' 10 assists to go along with a pair of steals.

The Paladins play host to Samford on Thursday in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
