The Paladins, who topped Winthrop 80-73 at the Well last Saturday, return to action when they open Southern Conference play versus Mercer on Friday evening in Macon, Ga. Tip-off at Hawkins Arena is set for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on ESPN3.

Friday's game marks the 28th all-time meeting between the Paladins and Bears with Furman holding a 17-10 series lead. Furman has won each of the last eight meetings, including its last three trips to Macon, and has claimed nine of the last 10 series meetings. Last season, Furman swept the regular season home-and-home series versus Mercer before downing the Bears 85-74 in the quarterfinal round of the SoCon Tournament behind 25 points from guard Jordan Lyons. In three games versus the Bears last season, Lyons averaged 20 points per game and connected on 14-of-31 three-point attempts.

Furman (10-3), ranked 10th in this week's CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 and No. 75 in the latest Pomeroy Ratings (Kenpom.com), enters league play at 10-3 on the season. Lyons leads the Paladins averaging 15.3 points per game, while sophomore Noah Gurley has added 15.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest. Junior forward Clay Mounce, who posted 17 points, nine boards and seven assists last time out versus Winthrop, is averaging 14.2 points and a team-best 6.7 rebounds per game. He ranks among the national leaders with 30 steals this season.

Mercer improved to 5-6 with a victory at CAA member UNC Wilmington on Monday evening. Forward Ethan Stair, the reigning SoCon Player of the Week, leads the Bears averaging 18.7 points and a league-best 10.3 rebounds per game.

Following Friday's league opener, Furman will be idle until a visit to Lexington, Va., to face the VMI Keydets on New Year's Day at 1 p.m.
