Men's Lacrosse Downs VMI in Season Finale

Greenville, S.C. – Behind five points each from William Holcomb and Jarrett Birch, Furman downed VMI, 20-6, on Saturday in the 2019 regular season finale. The win ends the Paladins season at 4-10, 2-5 SoCon, while the loss finishes the season for the Keydets at 4-9, 0-7 SoCon).

Birch and Holcomb each turned in a team-high four goals and added an assist on the day, while Anders Erickson also tallied five points with three goals and two assists. Chad Kreuzer and Carson Sorrells each tallied two goals and two assists, while Alec Van de Bovenkamp made 16 saves and picked up three groundballs. Holcomb became Furman's all-time leader in points on Saturday (121 – 84 g, 37a), after becoming the career-record holder for goals scored (84) last week.

Furman opened an 8-2 lead on the Keydets after the first 15:00 of play, highlighted by three goals by Holcomb. VMI outscored the Paladins 2-1 in the second, but Furman held a 9-4 advantage at halftime.

The Paladins used back-to-back goals by Anders Erickson and Jordan Radoll to push the lead to 11-4 to open the second half, before the Keydets netted back-to-back scores to cut the lead to 11-6 with 12:06 to go in the third. Furman used a 9-0 run to close out the game, however, holding the Keydets scoreless for the final 27:00 to take the 20-6 victory.

Furman seniors William Holcomb and David Williamson each finish their careers ranked in the top five in Paladin history in points, goals, and assists, while Myles Cohen finishes his career ranked third in Furman history in groundballs (83).
