Dylan Lane's second half bicycle kick proved to be the difference as Furman blanked North Florida, 1-0, in exhibition men's soccer action at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla., on Friday evening.
"It was great to play against my old assistant coach Derek Marinatos, who has a great team," said Paladin head coach
Doug Allison. "It's nice to get a win down here and any shutout is a good result. We'll turn our focus towards Duke and begin preparing for next week."
Lane, a midfielder from Raleigh, N.C., found the back of the net in the 65
th minute with an acrobatic effort inside the box that was setup by assists from senior
Jack Shiels and freshman
Alfredo Diaz-Santillan.

Ben Roberts combined to record the shutout in goal for the Paladins. UNF held an 11-5 edge in shots.
Furman opens the regular season next weekend at Duke's John Rennie Invitational in Durham, N.C. The Paladins face the host Blue Devils on Friday at 7:30 p.m. before taking on former SoCon foe Elon at noon on Sunday.
