Late Goal Helps Oregon Edge Furman, 3-2

Paladins Host PC On Thursday At 7 p.m.

Greenville, S.C. – Oregon's Zoe Hasenauer broke a 2-2 deadlock with a goal in the 86th minute to lift Oregon to a 3-2 victory over Furman in non-conference women's soccer action Sunday afternoon on Seagraves Field at Stone Stadium.

With less than five minutes to play, Hasenauer found space in the middle of the field and launch a left-footed shot from outside the box that found the left side of the net at 85:45 for her second goal of the season and the eventual match-winning score.

"We saw some very good things tonight against a strong Oregon team, but we are disappointed not to get a result," said Furman head coach Andrew Burr. "I thought we created some quality chances against a Pac-12 opponent and that should give us confidence going forward."

Oregon (3-1-2) grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes of the match. Sakura Toshida curled a cross into the box that bounced inside the six-yard box. Jordan Wormdahl beat Paladin goalkeeper Kellsey Weaver to the ball and nodded a header in the center of the net at 5:29 to open the scoring. At the 9:53 mark, Yoshida hammered a shot off the crossbar and Ally Cook deposited the rebound to double the Ducks lead.

Furman dominated the possession the chances for the rest of the half and pulled a goal back with just 57 seconds left before intermission when Kyndal Anderson laced a shot from the left side of the box into the right-side netting. In the 67th minute, Erin O'Hearn lofted a corner kick towards the back post and Erin Houlihan beat her defender to the ball to head in the tying goal at the 66:17 mark.

Both teams created chances to break the tie late in the second half, but Hasenauer broke through with her 86th minute strike.

The Paladins fashioned a 15-10 edge in total shots, while Oregon held a 6-4 advantage in shots on target. Goalkeeper Katelyn Carter recorded two saves for the Ducks and Weaver claimed three saves for the Paladins.

Furman continues its homestand on Thursday at 7 p.m. when the Paladins play host to the Presbyterian Blue Hose. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at FurmanPaladins.com or at the Stone Stadium entrance beginning one hour prior to kickoff.
