GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's tennis team blanked both Davidson and USC Upstate, 7-0, Monday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.

In the opening match of the day versus Davidson (0-1), the Paladins won two out of three doubles contests.  Sophomore Madison Dillon and senior Danni Vines topped Nicole Krykanov and Alexandra Abele, 6-3, at flight two, and juniors MaryAnn Rompf and Georgie Walker blew past Alyssa Hahn and Josie Schaffer, 6-1, at number three.  Furman senior Katarina Kozarov and sophomore Julia Adams, who rank 30th nationally, led Samantha Armas and Elizabeth Truluck, 5-4, in an unfinished flight one match up.

Furman claimed victories in all six singles matches, with 13th-ranked Kozarov recording a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Abele at number one, and Adams notching a 6-1, 6-1 advantage versus Truluck at flight two.  At number three, Rompf came from behind for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 win against Armas, and Walker downed Mira Gladstone, 6-1, 6-2 at number four.  Dillon scored a 6-2, 6-2 win over Emma Heiderscheit at number five, and at flight six, freshman Maggie Pate held off Schaffer, who is tied for 114th nationally, 7-5, 3-6, 10-8.

Against USC Upstate (0-2), the Paladins recorded wins in all three doubles matches.  Kozarov and Adams topped Elin Hellberg and Maria Jardim, 6-2, in the top match, and Walker teamed with Rompf for a 6-3 victory over Roberta Armani and Gabriela Cevallos at number two.  At flight three, Dillon and Pate defeated Laura Illanes and Morgan Valentine, 6-1. 

Furman swept the singles matches in straight sets.  Adams moved to flight one, where she beat Jardim, 6-3, 6-0, and Walker blanked Hellberg, 6-0, 6-0, at flight two.  At number three, Rompf held off Cevallos, 6-3, 6-0, while Dillon blanked Valentine, 6-0, 6-0, at number four.  In the flight five contest, Pate recorded a 6-1, 6-1 advantage versus Armani, and sophomore Mary Hunter Hyche entered the lineup at number six, beating Illanes, 6-1, 6-2.

"Today was a great day," said Furman head coach Adam Herendeen.  "This early in the season, it is huge for us to get to compete as much as we did today.  I am proud of the girls for how focused they were and how they came out and took care of business in every match."

Furman (2-2) will compete at the 12th Annual ITA Kickoff Weekend, Jan. 25-26.  Matches will take place at 26 sites across the country, with the Paladins playing in Athens, Ga.  Furman will take on Notre Dame on Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. then will square off against either Georgia or Michigan State on Jan. 26.
