GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's tennis team will travel to Louisville, Ky., this weekend for two matches at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Paladins will square off against Lipscomb Saturday at noon then face Louisville Sunday at noon.
The Paladins enter the weekend with a 3-3 record after defeating Michigan State, 4-3, and dropping a 4-2 decision to Notre Dame last weekend at the 12th Annual ITA Kickoff Weekend in Athens, Ga. Furman is one of only eight teams with three players ranked in the top 25 nationally in either singles and doubles. Senior Katarina Kozarov ranks 13 nationally in singles, while sophomore Julia Adams and Madison Dillon are ranked 23rd nationally in doubles. Kozarov and Adams are just outside the top 25, ranking 30th.
"We learned a lot about the grit of our team last weekend," said Furman head coach Adam Herendeen. "Our level is improving daily, and I think two more tough matches are just what we need this weekend. We are excited for the challenge."
Saturday's match marks the first meeting between Furman and Lipscomb. The Bisons are 0-2 after losing to Samford and Alabama in their opening weekend. Lipscomb will face Louisville on Friday before playing the Paladins on Saturday.
On Sunday Furman and Louisville will square off for the seventh time. The Cardinals defeated the Paladins, 4-3, in Greenville last season to take a 4-2 series lead. Louisville is 5-0 this season with double header wins over North Alabama and Southeast Missouri State and a single win versus Ball State.
