Greenville, S.C. – Furman's
Jordan Lyons has been tabbed as the Southern Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced Tuesday by the league office.
Lyons, a native of Peachtree City, Ga., connected on three triples in last Wednesday's victory over Mercer at Timmons Arena to pass Eric Webb as Furman's all-time leader in three-point baskets with 274 before tallying a game-high 33 points in Saturday's 82-73 win at Western Carolina to become the Paladins' all-time leader with 91 career victories in his four-year career.
The senior guard averaged 23.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game for the week and upped his season scoring average to 17.5 points per game. In 12 SoCon contests this season, Lyons ranks third in the league averaging 19.9 points per game and shooting 42.1% from behind the arc.
Saturday's victory helped the Paladins, 20-5 overall and 10-2 in league play, notch 20 wins in four consecutive seasons for the first time in school history and become the fastest to reach 20 wins in program history.
Furman travels to Birmingham, Ala., to take on Samford on Wednesday night at the Pete Hanna Center. Entering Wednesday, Furman holds a 19-9 series lead versus Samford. In the first meeting of the season last month, Furman claimed a 101-78 victory at Timmons Arena behind 21 points from Lyons.
The Paladins return home on February 15, to host Chattanooga for Legend's Weekend.
