Fort Myers, Fla. – Furman softball dropped its second game of the day with a 9-1 loss to FGCU on Friday afternoon at the FGCU Invitational in Fort Myers, Fla.
Leadoff hitter Johneisha Rowe went 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs and two stolen bases to ignite FGCU's 13-hit attack as the Eagles plated five runs over the first two innings en route to the six-inning win. She singled and scored in each of the first two innings, drove in runs in the second and fourth innings and drew a base on balls and scored in the sixth.
Starter Sarah Lawton tossed five shutout innings, allowed just two hits and fanned eight batters without issuing a walk to improve to 3-0 in the circle. Furman's
Bailey Tanner (0-3) suffered the loss allowing nine runs on 13 hits in five and two-thirds innings of work.
In addition to Rowe's three hits, McKenna Batterton, Reedy Davenport and Abbey Thomas each collected two hits.
The Paladins recorded their lone run in the sixth as
Hana Suniga opened the inning with a single and pinch runner
Marina Griffin scored on a grounder from
Riley Ludlam.
