GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman held off College of Charleston, 4-3, Saturday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
The Cougars claimed the first point of the match with two doubles victories. Noah Borges and Robby Krick topped sophomore James Roelofse and junior Drew Singerman, 6-3, at flight two, and Easton Thomas and Johnny Wang slipped past freshmen Chad Nash and Charlie Meyerson, 6-4, at flight two. The top-seeded match up was unfinished, with Ben Cawston and Karl Mosterd leading senior Jake Munns and junior Henrik Atlevi, 5-4.
The Paladins put up three quick singles wins at flights two through four to build a 3-1 lead. Atlevi defeated Mosterd, 6-3, 6-0, at flight two, and Singerman blew past Wang, 6-1, 6-1, at number three. At flight four, Roelofse downed Borges, 6-2, 7-5. Munns held off Cawston, 7-5, 6-7(1), 6-2, at flight one to clinch the team victory for the Paladins.Â
College of Charleston (5-4) notched wins at flights five six after the match was clinched. Thomas recorded a 6-4, 7-6(9) victory over Nash at number five, and Krick outlasted Meyerson, 6-0, 3-6, 1-0(10-5), at number six.
Furman (9-4, 2-0 SoCon) will hit the road for a spring break trip to California next week. The Paladins will begin the road swing at Pacific on March 9 at 4:30 p.m.
