Box Score Boiling Springs, N.C. – Gardner-Webb's Brooke Perry limited Furman to just two hits to toss a complete-game shutout as the Runnin' Bulldogs edged the Paladins, 2-0, Saturday afternoon in the Red and Black Tournament at Brinkley Stadium in Boiling Springs, N.C.
Perry, 9-2 on the season, walked five batters in seven innings, but also fanned seven Paladins to pick up her third victory of the tournament. Furman's
Bailey Tanner (3-6) suffered the loss after allowing just one earned run on four hits over six innings in the circle. The right-hander fanned five batters and issued two walks.
Gardner-Webb (18-3) got on the board in the bottom of the third inning when Weslyn Almond walked, stole second and scored on an errant throw from the catcher when she attempted to steal third base. Back-to-back doubles from Perry and Kayleigh Nicholson doubled the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Furman (4-13) went 0-for-10 with runners on base and 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position for the game.
Casey Bigham and
Tess Griswold registered hits for the Paladins, while
Savannah Hughes walked twice.
The Paladins continue play in Gardner-Webb's Red and Black Tournament tomorrow when they face N.C. Central at 4 p.m.
