Furman Takes on No. 5 Wofford to Open SoCon Women’s Basketball Championship

Paladins-Terriers Meeting for Second Time at SoCon Tournament

Greenville, S.C. – For the second time in less than a week, the Furman women's basketball team will face the Wofford Terriers as it opens play at the Ingles Southern Conference Championships presented by General Shale on Thursday afternoon.

Tipoff between the No. 4 seed Paladins and fifth-seeded Terriers is scheduled for approximately 1:15 p.m. from the Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, N.C.

The Paladins (18-11, 8-6 SoCon) are facing Wofford for the second time in less than a week after concluding the regular season last Saturday at Timmons Arena. Furman defeated the Terriers 62-56 and improved to 28-0 all-time against Wofford in Greenville. The Paladins concluded the game shooting 33.3 percent from the field and held a 44-29 advantage in rebounding. Furman also led in points in the paint (18-14), second chance points (12-4), and bench points (20-2).

Tierra Hodges recorded her 14th double-double of the season with 14 points and a career-high 18 rebounds to lead the Paladins offensively. Taylor Petty added 10 points and three assists. Le'Jzae Davidson contributed 13 points while Lindsey Taylor had 12.

Hodges was recognized for her performance on Monday by being named the SoCon Player of the Week for the third time this season.

On Tuesday, Furman had three players earn All-SoCon recognition in Hodges, Davidson and Taylor. In separate balloting by the league's head coaches and media, Davidson and Hodges garnered All-Conference recognition while Taylor was named to the All-Freshman Team. Hodges landed First Team All-SoCon honors in balloting by the media and was a Second Team pick of the coaches. Davidson was a consensus Second Team selection.

Davidson leads the Paladins offensively this season averaging 14.3 points per game while Hodges adds a double-double of 11.8 points and a team-high 10.4 rebounds per game. Milica Manojlovic dishes out a team-best 4.9 assists per game.

Wofford finished the regular season with a 15-14 overall record and went 8-6 in SoCon play. The Terriers have two players averaging in double figures in Chloe Wanink (16.0) and Da'Ja Green (13.0). Defensively, Lilly Hatton leads the team with 6.0 rebounds per contest. Wofford is under the direction of fourth-year head coach Jimmy Garrity.

Furman is facing the Terriers for the 56th time in program history with Furman leading the all-time series 45-10. In the SoCon Women's Basketball Championships, the teams have met once previously with Wofford winning 57-50 in the first round of the 2008 tournament in Charleston.

The winner of the Furman-Wofford game will face either No. 1 Samford or No. 8 Western Carolina in the semifinals on Friday afternoon at 11 a.m.
