GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's tennis team will travel to California for the team's spring break trip, March 8-13.
The Paladins will open the trip at Santa Clara on Sunday at 3 p.m. then square off at Saint Mary's on Wednesday as part of a double header with the Furman men's team. The Paladin men will begin at 3 p.m. with the women to follow at approximately 6 p.m. Furman will conclude the trip with a 3 p.m. match at San Jose State on Friday.
Furman enters the weekend with a 12-3 overall record and 1-0 SoCon mark after defeating Chattanooga, 5-2, and Limestone, 4-0, last Friday. Senior Katarina Kozarov, the two-time reigning Southern Conference Player of the Year, ranks 16th nationally in singles. In doubles, the Paladin duo of sophomores Madison Dillon and Julia Adams, the reigning SoCon Freshman of the Year, is ranked 28th nationally with a 4-2 record this spring, while Kozarov and Adams are 36th this week with a 6-0 record in spring competition.
Sunday's match marks the first meeting between Furman and Santa Clara. The Broncos are 4-3 overall after defeating San Jose State and Cal St. Fullerton, each 4-0, last weekend. Santa Clara will play at San Diego on Saturday before facing Furman Sunday. Â
Furman is 1-1 all-time versus Saint Mary's after winning, 9-0, when the teams last met in 1993. The Gaels are 6-4 after losing to No. 9 Stanford, 7-0, on Tuesday. Prior to the loss to the Cardinal, Saint Mary's won four straight over Cal State Fullerton, San Jose State, Oregon, and Fresno State.Â
The Paladins will square off against San Jose State on March 13 in the first meeting between the two teams. The Spartans enter the match at 2-6 after dropping a 4-3 match to Cal State Fullerton last weekend. Â
