Time Change Announced For Wednesday's Furman-Citadel Men's Basketball Matchup

Tip-Off Set For 3 P.M. On ESPN+

Greenville, S.C. – Wednesday's Southern Conference men's basketball matchup between Furman and The Citadel, originally scheduled for 7 p.m., will tip off at 3 p.m. at McAlister Field House in Charleston, S.C., it was announced on Monday.
 
The Paladins enter the game at 8-3 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the Bulldogs are 8-0 overall and 1-0 in the SoCon. Furman has been idle since a January 2 victory over Mercer due to a pair of postponements. The Citadel claimed a 92-87 win over Chattanooga in its SoCon opener this past Saturday.
Wednesday's game will be streamed on ESPN+ and fans can listen to the "Voice of the Paladins", Dan Scott, on ESPN Upstate at 97.7 FM/1330 AM in Greenville, 97.1 FM/ 950 AM in Spartanburg, and thru the Radio.com app. 

The Paladins return home on Saturday to host ETSU at Timmons Arena. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. and the game will be televised live on ESPNU.

  • Furman, ranked No. 4 in the latest College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 and a SoCon-best No. 50 in the latest NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET) Rankings, looks to remain unbeaten in SoCon play when it visits The Citadel on Wednesday afternoon.
  • The Paladins have been idle since downing Mercer, 83-80, at Timmons Arena on Jan. 2 to claim their 18thconsecutive victory at Timmons Arena and 34th in their last 36 regular season games in the facility.
  • Furman's road trip to Western Carolina last Wednesday and home contest versus VMI this past Saturday were postponed due to COVID testing and quarantine requirements within the Catamount and Keydet programs.
  • Senior Clay Mounce drained 5-of-9 three-point attempts to total a career-high 27 points in the Paladins' victory over Mercer, while fellow forward Noah Gurley added a season-high 23 points. 
  • Junior Mike Bothwell, who leads Furman in scoring (17.7 ppg), rebounding (5.5 rpg), assists (3.9 apg) and steals per game (1.9 spg), contributed 15 points, five boards, five assists and a career-high six steals versus Mercer en route to earning SoCon Player of the Week honors.
  • The Paladins recorded 14 steals in the victory over the Bears, which ranked as the most by a Furman team against an NCAA Division I opponent since claiming 14 in an 83-72 win over UNC Asheville on Dec. 5, 2017.
  • Clay Mounce (15.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg) grabbed two rebounds in a Dec. 15 loss at Alabama to reach 500 for his career and become just the 10th player in school history with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 150 assists in a career.
  • Head coach Bob Richey (81-28), now in his fourth year, ranks in the top 10 among active NCAA Division I coaches with a .743 winning percentage.
  • The Paladins boast one of the most experienced starting lineups in the country with two seniors and three juniors. The lineup of senior Alex Hunter, junior Mike Bothwell, fifth-year senior Clay Mounce, redshirt-junior Noah Gurley and junior Jalen Slawson have combined to appear in 431 games and record 274 starts in the purple and white.
 
Furman vs. The Citadel Series
  • Wednesday's game will mark the 214th all-time meeting between Furman and The Citadel with the Paladins holding a 126-87 series lead.
  • The Paladins have won four straight and eight of the last nine meetings versus the Bulldogs in a series that dates back to the 1919-20 campaign.
  • Last season, Furman swept its home-and-home series versus The Citadel for the second straight season. Clay Mounce scored a game-high 22 points to power Furman to a 78-54 victory in Charleston on Jan. 25, before Noah Gurley netted a team-best 20 points in an 82-58 triumph over the Bulldogs in the regular season finale on Feb. 29, 2020, at Timmons Arena.
  • The Citadel's last victory in the series, a 100-92 overtime decision, came on Feb. 3, 2018, at McAlister Field House.
  • Head coach Bob Richey is 5-1 all-time versus The Citadel.
 
Paladins Add Four Televised Games During SoCon Schedule
Furman will make three appearances on ESPNU and will face off versus Wofford on Feb. 6 in the Ingles SoCon Game of the Week on Nexstar affiliates throughout the southeast, it was announced in December. The Paladins will host ETSU on ESPNU on Jan. 16 at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in downtown Greenville before entertaining co-SoCon favorite UNCG on ESPNU Jan. 25 at Timmons Arena. The Paladins and Spartans will battle on ESPNU at the Greensboro Coliseum on Feb. 10 in Furman's third appearance of the year on the ESPN family of networks.
 
Furman Now Scheduled To Host Three "Weekends at the Well" In 2021
Furman basketball returns to downtown Greenville for the first of three "Weekends at the Well" when it hosts the Chattanooga Mocs on January 30. Furman and Wofford will stage a rematch of last season's thrilling showdown at the Well on February 6, before the Paladins entertain Western Carolina at the Well on February 13. Get your tickets nowfor all three "Weekends at the Well"!
