WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Three members of the Furman indoor track and field team ran in the ninth annual Camel City Elite Races Saturday at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Senior Aaron Wier turned in a time of 4:01.92 to take sixth place in the mile. He placed eighth with a time of 3:59.38 amongst a professional field at the Camel City Elite Mile in 2020 and posted a time of 4:00.66 in the event at the 2020 USC Indoor Open. Wier ranks 40th this season in the NCAA recording a time of 4:02.18 at the Music City Challenge last weekend.
Junior Cameron Ponder placed seventh with a time of 7:56.36 in the men's elite 3,000m. Ponder, who has recorded two sub-4:00 mile marks during the 2021 indoor season, holds a career-best time of 7:55.15 in the 3,000m, which he set two weekends ago at the South Carolina Invitational. His time of 7:55.15 ranks 12th nationally this season. In the women's elite 800m, senior Emma Kuntz crossed the line in 2:10.94 for eighth place. She notched a season-best time of 2:07.91 in the event at the South Carolina Invitational on February 6, which places her 31st on this season's NCAA top times list. Kuntz won the 800m at last season's SoCon Indoor Championships with a career-best indoor time of 2:07.68.
Furman will compete at the Southern Conference Championships February 27-28 in Lexington, Va.
