No. 24 Furman Concludes Road Trip With 5-2 Victory At North Florida

ORLANDO, FLA. -- No. 24 Furman concluded its three-match road trip with a 5-2 victory at North Florida Wednesday at the UNF Tennis Complex in Jacksonville, Fla.  The Paladins have won ten out of their last 12 matches, including scoring victories over Alabama, 16th-ranked Wake Forest, No. 18 South Carolina, and Virginia Tech.

Furman swept the doubles matches to win the opening point.  Senior Katarina Kozarov and junior Julia Adams, who rank 27th nationally, defeated Catherine Gulihur and Ana Paula Melilo, 6-2, at flight one, and junior Madison Dillon and senior MaryAnn Rompf downed Lucia Montano and Constanza Gorches, 6-1, at number two.  At flight three, sophomore Maggie Pate and freshman Ellie Schoppe held off Valentina Mariotto and Sean Lodzki, 6-4. 

The Paladins won four singles matches, three in straight sets, for the victory.  Fifteenth-ranked Kozarov topped Montano, who ranks 84th, 6-4, 6-4, at number one, and Rompf beat Gorches, 6-2, 6-4, at flight four.  At flight five, Pate blew past Mariotto, 6-1, 6-2, and Schoppe came from behind to defeat Summer Yardley, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, at number six.

The Ospreys (7-5) scored two singles points at flights two and three.  Gulihur held off Adams, 7-6(3), 7-5, at flight two, and Melilo recorded a 6-4, 6-3 advantage over Dillon at number three.

Furman (11-6, 1-0 SoCon) returns home to entertain Clemson on March 17 at 3 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.
