Scott Tied for Lead at Schenkel Invitational

Freshman Records 66 in First Collegiate Round

Statesboro, Ga. – Making his collegiate debut on Friday, freshman Mac Scott carded an opening round 66 and is tied for first place at the Schenkel Invitational to lead the Furman men's golf team from the par 72, 6962-yard Forest Heights Country Club.

Scott, a native of Mountain Brook, Ala., opened his round recording birdies on four of his first five holes and finished at 3-under heading to the back-nine. He also finished 3-under over the final nine holes with a birdie on the second hole and then an eagle on the par 5 seventh. Based on available records, the opening round 66 from Scott is the lowest by a Paladin to begin their career.

Scott is tied for the tournament lead at 6-under 66 with Benjamin Shipp of N.C. State and Georgia Southern's Brett Barron.

Senior Keller Harper had five birdies during his first round and currently sits tied for 13th place at 2-under par 70. Sophomore Ross Funderburke collected three birdies on Friday and is one stroke behind Harper tied for 19th at 1-under 71.

Sophomore Reynolds Lambert and junior Jack Crosby rounded out the individual leaderboard for Furman tied for 49th and 58th places, respectively. Lambert posted a first round 75 while Crosby contributed a 76.

The Paladins completed the first round with a 6-under par 282 and are in third place of the team standings, behind only No. 21 N.C. State and No. 40 Georgia Southern.

N.C. State leads the Schenkel Invitational by three strokes over Georgia Southern at 16-under 272.

Furman ranks third in par 4 scoring with a 4.02 stroke average, and is at 6-under with a 4.70 stroke average in par 5 scoring. The Paladins are also fourth among the tournament field with 57 pars and 17 birdies. Furman was one of four teams to record an eagle on Friday.

Scott leads the Schenkel Invitational after day one in par four scoring at 4-under and a 3.60 stroke average, and is one of four players with an eagle. He ranks tied for fourth in par 5 scoring at 3-under par to go with a 4.25 stroke average.

Scott and Harper have compiled a team-best five birdies, while Crosby adds a team-high 14 pars.

The Paladins tee off their second round on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m.
