Greensboro, Ga. – Furman senior
Keller Harper posted a final round 1-under par 71, tied for the lowest score of the day, on Tuesday and finished in third place as the Furman men's golf team concluded play at the SoCon Men's Golf Championship from the par 72, 7,393-yard Oconee Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee.
The senior from Atlanta, Ga., recorded his third career top-10 finish at the SoCon Men's Golf Championship and second of fourth or better. Harper recorded four birdies during his final round highlighted by three on par 5 holes No. 1, No. 7 and No. 17. He ranked third among the tournament field with 13 birdies, while sitting second in par 4 scoring (-1, 3.97 stroke average) and tied for third in par 3 scoring (E, 3.00 stroke average).
Harper finished the tournament at 5-under par 211 (70-70-71), placing four strokes behind tournament champion Archie Davies of East Tennessee State and one back of second place Louis Theys of Western Carolina.
"Keller played so solidly this week tee to green," said head coach
Matt Davidson. "If he could have gotten a few more putts to drop he would've been right there, but another top three finish in what is certainly one of the best individual seasons in program history. We are looking forward to seeing where he is assigned for the NCAA regionals and excited about the opportunity that is present for him."
Freshman
Mac Scott, playing in his first career SoCon Men's Golf Championship, registered a top-10 finish following a final round 76, placing in a tie for ninth place at 4-over 220 (72-72-76). Scott carded two birdies over a three-hole stretch on No. 8 and No. 10.
Sophomore
Ross Funderburke tallied a final day 74 to finish two strokes behind Scott in a tie for 15
th, shooting a combined score of 222 (76-72-74). He had birdies on two par 5 holes, No. 7 and No. 10.
Junior
Jack Crosby tied for 31
st place after shooting a final round 75 with three birdies, and totaled a three-round score of 228 (79-74-75).
Sophomore
Reynolds Lambert rounded out the individual leaderboard in 40
th place following a final round 80.
Furman recorded a final round 296 on Tuesday and finished third in the team standings with a combined score of 14-over 878 (294-288-296).
"We're really proud of how the guys played hard right to the end," Davidson added. "Although third place wasn't our goal going in, it's still a very strong finish in what was a deep Southern Conference this year. Certainly, a lot to build on going into the summer for all of our players and it will be great to see how they continue to grow and improve going into next fall."
East Tennessee State won the SoCon Men's Golf Championship by eight strokes over second place Western Carolina at 5-under par 859. Davies captured the individual championship at 9-under 207.
