GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Coming off a Southern Conference season opening win over Western Carolina on Saturday in downtown Greenville, Furman's women's basketball team returns to action on Thursday when it plays host to Wofford at Timmons Arena.
Tipoff for the ESPN+ streamed clash between the two Upstate SoCon rivals is set for 7:00 p.m.
Due to the increase of COVID-19 transmission and infections, everyone attending an indoor athletic event at Furman is required to mask. Masks are required upon entry and must be worn within the facility, except when eating or drinking.
Thursday's contest will mark the 59th meeting on the hardwood between the Paladins and Terriers in a series Furman leads 47-11 and is 29-0 versus Wofford in Greenville.
Furman (8-7, 1-0 SoCon) and Wofford (6-9, 1-0) split last year's games, with the Terriers claiming a 61-54 win in Spartanburg and the Paladins answering with a 58-52 triumph in Greenville.
The Paladins and Terriers both earned SoCon season opening wins over Western Carolina last week — Wofford with 72-48 home triumph and Furman a 71-59 verdict at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in downtown Greenville.
Furman will look to fifth-year senior forward
Tierra Hodges to lead its attack against Wofford. Â A two-time All-SoCon performer, Hodges is well established as one of the league's top all-around performers, evidenced by her 15.9 ppg scoring average, which ranks second in the league, and SoCon best 11.6 rpg clip. Â The Covington, Ga., product, and two-time SoCon Player of the Month honoree is coming off a 16-point, 12-rebound performance versus Western Carolina and has notched nine double-doubles in 14 games, while climbing into second place on Furman's career rebounds ledger (1,074). Â She also heads into the Wofford contest ranked 12th in scoring in program history (1,344 points).
Complementing Hodges is sophomore guard
Tate Walters (13.3 ppg), who fashioned a team high 17-point performance in the win over WCU, which she combined up with a season high nine assists, six rebounds, and four steals in 39 minutes of action.Â
The Paladins look to welcome back senior center
Grace van Rij (8.8 ppg, 5.0 rpg), who sat out the Western Carolina game.
Sophomore wing
Sydney James contributed 11 points, and senior guard
Greyson Boone added 10 points in the win over WCU.
Furman's postponed Jan. 5 home game versus UNC Greensboro has been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 7.
