Furman Hosts Stephen F. Austin At Greenville Winter Invitational

Paladins Tip-Off At 4:30 P.M. At The Well

Greenville, S.C. – The Furman men's basketball team looks to return to the win column when it hosts defending WAC regular season champion Stephen F. Austin in the inaugural Greenville Winter Invitational Saturday afternoon at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
 
Saturday's clash between the Paladins and Lumberjacks is set for 4:30 p.m. and will be streamed live on YouTube by The Field of 68 Media Group with John Fanta, Terrence Oglesby, and Rob Dauster calling the action. Fans can listen to the game on 97.7 FM, 1330 AM, and through the Audacy app with Dan Scott and Tom Van Hoy on the call.
 
The Greenville Winter Invitational begins at 2 p.m. with South Carolina taking on East Carolina. Following the Furman-Stephen F. Austin matchup, Clemson battles Richmond at 7 p.m. Fans need just one ticket to see all three games. Click here to purchase your seats for Saturday's tripleheader.
 
Furman enters the weekend at 7-4 after suffering a 92-73 loss at NC State on Tuesday night. Terquavion Smith led the Wolfpack with 24 points and NC State forced 20 Furman turnovers in the first meeting between the schools since 1985. Guard Mike Bothwell paced the Paladins with 14 points to move into 14th on Furman's career scoring list with 1,590 points. Freshman Ben VanderWal, who posted a +15 plus/minus, tallied seven points, grabbed seven boards, and recorded two steals in less than 20 minutes of action.
 
The Paladins, who were also 7-4 through 11 games during the 2021-22 campaign, have notched victories over Missouri Valley Conference member Belmont, the SEC's South Carolina Gamecocks, and on the road at Sun Belt foe Appalachian State this season. Bothwell has led the Paladins averaging 19.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per outing. Forward Jalen Slawson has added 14.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists.
 
Furman has averaged 81.5 points per game, which ranks 35th nationally. The Paladins are sixth nationally in assists per game and 16th in effective field goal percentage.
 
Saturday's game marks the first meeting on the hardwood between Furman and Stephen F. Austin. The Lumberjacks improved to 6-4 on the season with an 80-79 overtime triumph at Louisiana Tech on Wednesday evening. Junior Kyle Hayman led four Lumberjacks in double figures with 18 points.
 
Following Saturday's tilt, Furman caps its non-conference schedule with a 7 p.m. matchup versus the Anderson Trojans on Monday at Timmons Arena.
