GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's Cameron Ponder and Megan Marvin have been chosen the Southern Conference Indoor Track Athletes of the Month for February, as released today by the league office. The Paladin duo earned the honors for the second-consecutive month.
Ponder, a senior from Winston-Salem, N.C., was a two-time SoCon Indoor Track Athlete of the Week in February. He placed seventh in the 3,000m run at the Camel City Invitational on Feb. 5 in 7:47.14, a personal record and the second-best time in program history, which was good for eighth in the NCAA at the time. Ponder went on to win the 3,000m at the JDL DMR Invitational on Feb. 19 by more than 40 seconds, qualifying for the NCAA Championships with a meet-record time of 7:50.97, which converts to 7:45.56.
At the end of February, he won his third-straight title in the mile at the SoCon Indoor Track and Field Championships, breaking the meet record with a time of 3:59.75 for his fourth career sub-4:00 mile. He also competed on the Paladin distance medley relay team, which took second place.
Marvin, a sophomore from Chapel Hill, N.C., won two titles and set two meet records at the SoCon Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 26-27, successfully defending her 2021 crown in the 800m run in 2:05.68 and running the first leg on the winning distance medley relay team, which turned in a time of 11:31.56. She led off the month on Feb. 5 with a sixth-place finish in the elite section of the 800m at the Camel City Invitational, clocking a converted time of 2:06.61. Marvin was named the SoCon Indoor Track Athlete of the Week on Feb. 16 after recording a fourth-place finish in the 800m at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational with a time of 2:07.03, a program record, and finishing third in the mile in a personal-best 4:39.40.
