Furman Falls to Jacksonville State, 6-2, in Bulldog Invitational Finale

Paladins Continue Road Trip Next Week at Florida State, Florida A&M

Starkville, Miss. – Camryn McLemore's grand slam in the sixth inning broke a 2-2 tie and lifted the Jacksonville State Gamecocks to a 6-2 victory over the Furman softball team on Sunday morning in the Paladins' final game of the Bulldog Invitational at Nusz Park.

Furman drops to 9-9 overall while Jacksonville State improves to 10-8 on the season.

Kat Carter (5-4) picked up the win throwing a complete game and surrendered two runs on six hits, three walks and five strikeouts. Shelby Basso (0-1) took the loss allowing four runs (none earned) on two hits and two strikeouts in one inning of relief.

The Paladins jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Kaitlyn Laudick's two RBI double to right center field. Emily Bartlett and Riley Ludlam both delivered two-out singles and scored on the double by Laudick.

McLemore's grand slam capped a six-run top of the sixth for the Gamecocks after they had tied the score at 2-2 after Megan Fortner delivered an RBI single to left field and Addie Robinson reached on a hit by pitch with the bases loaded the following at bat.

Bartlett led Furman offensively with two hits and one run scored while Laudick went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Ludlam provided one hit and one run scored and Ashlee Lykins added one hit.

Fortner posted a team high two hits for Jacksonville State and McLemore had a game high four RBI.

The Paladins continue their road trip next week traveling to Tallahassee, Fla. to face Florida State on March 8 and Florida A&M in a doubleheader on March 9.
