CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- No. 35 Furman topped Western Carolina, 7-0, Wednesday at the Catamount Athletic Complex in Cullowhee, N.C., to remain unbeaten in Southern Conference play.

The Paladins won two of three doubles matches to claim the first point.  Senior Julia Adams and sophomore Ellie Schoppe, who rank 44th nationally, defeated Julia Pezzuco and Jacy Smith, 6-2, at flight one, and at flight three, freshmen Sara Snyder and Jess Dawson blanked Miray Konar and Luzia Obermeier, 6-0.  The Catamounts won the flight two match, as Kata Foldeak and Angela Perez beat junior Madison Dillon and freshman Ellie Schulson, 6-1.

Furman won five singles matches in straight sets and took the final point by forfeit.  Adams, who ranks 53rd nationally, topped Foldeak, 6-2, 6-2, in the number one contest, and Schoppe recorded a 6-0, 6-1 advantage over Konar at number two.  At flight three, Snyder downed Smith, 6-0, 6-1, and Dillon swept Antonella Benavides, 6-0, 6-0, at flight four.  Schulson outlasted Perez, 7-6(4), 7-6(4), at flight five, and junior Maggie Pate entered the lineup at flight six, where she won by forfeit.

Furman (16-6, 4-0 SoCon) concludes the homes season Saturday when the Paladins entertain Samford at 1 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.
