Aaron Salinas stopped three shots to help Furman to its fourth consecutive shutout as the Paladins remained unbeaten in Southern Conference play with a 0-0 draw versus Mercer on Saturday night at Betts Stadium in Macon, Ga.
With the scoreless tie Furman moved to 7-3-2 overall and is tied for the SoCon lead with ETSU at 2-0-1 in conference play. Mercer moved to 5-3-5 overall and 1-1-1 in the SoCon.
The match featured few scoreless chances as Furman held an 11-7 edge in total hots while the Bears posted a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal. Trevor McMullen handled Furman's only shot on target to record a clean sheet for Mercer.
Furman outshot the Bears 6-4 in the opening half, but Mercer held the Paladins without a shot on goal over the final 45 minutes Salinas stopped Mercer's only goal scoring opportunity late in the second half.
The Paladins are back on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium Tuesday evening when they play host to the Presbyterian Blue Hose. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and the match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
