Former Furman Standout Hunter Selected In G League Draft

Stockton Kings Tab Former Paladin Point Guard In Second Round

Greenville, S.C. – Former Furman point guard Alex Hunter was selected by the Stockton Kings with the ninth pick of the second round in Saturday's 2023 NBA G League Draft, it was announced this afternoon.
 
A five-year standout for the Paladins, Hunter averaged 7.3 points and 1.8 assists per game for Karditsas in Greece during the 2022-23 season. As a fifth-year senior in 2021-22, the Raleigh, N.C., native contributed 13.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game while helping Furman to a 22-12 overall record, second place finish in the Southern Conference with a 12-6 mark, and a berth in the SoCon Tournament championship game.
 
The 5-foot-11 Hunter appeared in 157 games and registered 124 starts over five seasons at Furman. He averaged 9.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game as a Paladin and finished as the school's all-time leader with 318 career three-point baskets. Hunter shot 38.7% from three-point range for his career, including 41.3% as a senior. 
 
During his final season, Hunter scored 20 or more points on eight occasions. He posted a career-high 30 points in a loss at Mississippi State, scored 25 in an overtime triumph versus College of Charleston, and added 21 in a loss at North Carolina.
 
Hunter will go to camp with the Stockton Kings, affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, looking to earn a spot on the roster for the 2023-24 campaign. He joins a Kings organization that draft his former teammate, Jalen Slawson, in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft.
