Furman To Face Wyoming Sunday Morning On ESPNU

Paladins And Cowboys Play For Fifth Place At Myrtle Beach Invitational

Conway, S.C. – Furman concludes play in the Myrtle Beach Invitational on Sunday when it faces the Wyoming Cowboys on ESPNU in a 10:30 a.m. battle at the HTC Center in Conway, S.C.

The Paladins, limited to only seven available scholarship players on Friday night with Alex Williams and Tyrese Hughey sidelined by injury and Ben VanderWal unavailable due to illness, scored an 89-80 victory over tournament-host Coastal Carolina at the HTC Center. The triumph setup Sunday's first ever meeting between the Paladins and Cowboys (3-1), who downed College of Charleston on Friday after dropping their tournament opener versus Saint Louis, in the fifth-place game.

Furman (3-1) shot 51% from the field and converted on 13-of-17 trips to the foul line against the Chanticleers en route to victory on Friday night. After trailing by as many as six points in the first half, the Paladins rallied to take a 39-31 lead into intermission and shot over 62% from the floor in the second half. Head coach Bob Richey's squad totaled 27 assists on 32 made field goals and forced Coastal Carolina into 18 turnovers, which led to 21 points for the Paladins.

Guard Marcus Foster followed up his career-high 30 points in Thursday's loss to Liberty with another 30-point performance versus the Chanticleers on 12-of-23 shooting from the floor. He added five rebounds and five assists. Foster's 60 points through the first two games of the tournament already rank as the sixth highest scoring total by a single player in the history of the Myrtle Beach Invitational. The Atlanta, Ga., native became the first Paladin to score 30 points in back-to-back games since Karim Souchu accomplished the feat in victories over ETSU and UNC Greensboro during the 2002-03 season.

Junior Carter Whitt helped spark the Paladins on Friday with a career-best 20 points, all coming in the second half, and a career-high eight rebounds. Fellow junior JP Pegues totaled 14 points in the win.

In addition to the ESPNU broadcast, fans can listen to Dan Scott and Tom Van Hoy call the action of Sunday's game on The Fan Upstate 97.7 FM, 1330 AM, and via the Audacy app.
