JACKSONVILLE, FLA. -- Furman senior Anna Morgan (-12) fired a final-round 68 Tuesday to win the individual title, while the Paladins finished as runners-up at the Momentum Transportation UNF Collegiate presented by Gravity Diagnostics at the par 72, 5,964 yard Jacksonville Golf and Country Club in Jacksonville, Fla.
Morgan, a native of Spartanburg, S.C., teed off on No. 1 in the shotgun start and birdied four of five holes before the turn to sit at 3-under. She added additional birdies on No. 16 and No. 16 to seal the 6-stroke victory. The win marked Morgan's third-career individual championship.
Freshman Chloe Johnson (-6) finished second after carding an even 72 with a birdie on No. 9. The runner-up finish was the highest finish of her career.
Freshmen Faith Johnson (+10) and Liza Lapeyre (+10) tied for 50th. Johnson carded a 74 with three birdies on Tuesday, while Lapeyre added a 73 with three birdies. Junior Caroline Crumrine (+13) finished in a tie for 68th after recording a 78 in the final round.
Furman (E) recorded its highest finish of the 2023 spring season. Sam Houston (-14) won the tournament, followed by the Paladins, while Western Kentucky (+10) and North Florida (+10) tied for third. Xavier (+11) completed the top 5. Furman defeated Power 5 foes Penn State (6th +15) and Iowa (T10th +26) at the event.
The Paladins will compete at the Valspar Augusta Invitational in Augusta, Ga., Saturday and Sunday.
