Paladins Host North Florida On Friday At 6 P.M.

Clemson, S.C. – Mohamed Seye netted a pair of goals to propel ninth-ranked Clemson to a 2-0 victory over Furman in exhibition men's soccer action Tuesday evening at Historic Riggs Field in Clemson, S.C.

After a scoreless first half, Ousmane Sylla received a pass near the top of the box and played a diagonal ball to the right to slip Seye free behind the Paladin backline in the 67th minute. The forward curled his shot from the right side of the box to the far corner at the 66:22 mark to break the scoreless deadlock and give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

The Paladins' pushed forward and created their best scoring opportunities in the final 15 minutes. With just over 12 minutes left in regulation, Jake Raine controlled a pass with his back to goal, turned, and unleashed a driving shot towards the right post that Clemson goalkeeper Joseph Andema pushed wide for a corner kick with a diving save. Furman earned a corner kick in the 89th minute and a cross found senior Luke Tandy wide of the back post, but his header missed high.

Clemson sealed the victory with only 48 seconds remaining as Seye headed in a cross for the final 2-0 margin.

"I was proud of our effort tonight and we were able to get everyone into the match," said Paladin head coach Doug Allison. "We are just five days into preseason and were able to play competitively against a well-coached, top-10 team. There were a lot of positives to take from this match."

The Tigers finished with an 8-5 edge in total shots and 2-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Furman welcomes North Florida to Seagraves Field and Stone Soccer Stadium for its final exhibition match on Friday at 6 p.m. The Paladins kick off the regular season on Friday, August 25, with a 5 p.m. match versus Elon at Duke University.
