No. 4 Duke Tops Furman In John Rennie Invitational Finale, 6-0

Blue Devils Net Five Second Half Goals

Box Score Durham, N.C. – Forster Ajago netted a hat trick to power the fourth-ranked Duke Blue Devils to a 6-0 victory over Furman in the final match at the John Rennie Nike Invitational in Durham, N.C., on Sunday afternoon.
 
Ajago opened the scoring on the first shot of the match at the 13:08 mark. The Blue Devils earned a corner kick and Ajago got onto the end of Nick Pariano's set piece with a header to put Duke in front. Less than two minutes into the second half, the forward doubled the lead with his second tally of the afternoon. Kenan Hot fed a pass to Ruben Mesalles who played a cross from the left wing. Ajago redirected the ball past Furman goalkeeper Cameron Maung-Maung at the 46:37 mark to up the margin to 2-0.
 
The Blue Devils (2-0-0) put the match away in the 68th minute when Drew Kerr received a pass in the box from Pariano and played the ball back to Jai Bean. He fired his shot into the left side at 67:02 to extend the lead to three goals. Ajago completed the hat trick scoring in the 77th minute by scoring at the penalty spot.
 
Fahmi Ibrahim added to the lead at 86:05 when he was set free on a long pass from Bull Jorgensen and fired a shot over the shoulder of goalkeeper Aaron Salinas. Just 31 seconds later, Ibrahim doubled his total on an assist from Felix Barajas for the final 6-0 scoreline.
 
Duke posted a 19-10 shots advantage and 13-5 edge in shots on goal. The match featured eight cautions with each team receiving four yellow cards.
 
Julian Eyestone stopped five shots to earn the shutout for the Blue Devils. Maung-Maung made four saves and Salinas stopped three shots in goal for the Paladins.

Following Sunday's match, Conor Dowler and Caleb Johnson were named to the all-tournament team.
 
Furman (1-1-0) visits No. 18 Wake Forest on September 4 prior to playing its home opener versus Winthrop on September 8 at Stone Stadium.
