Furman Preps For SoCon Road Test At VMI Wednesday Night

Tip-Off Slated For 6 P.M. On ESPN+

Greenville, S.C. – The Furman Paladins return to the road on Wednesday night when they travel to Lexington, Va., to face Southern Conference foe VMI. Tip-off at Cameron Hall is set for 6 p.m.

Wednesday's game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and fans can listen to the action on The Fan Upstate at 97.7 FM and 1330 AM in Greenville, on 97.1 FM and 1490 AM in Spartanburg, or via the Audacy app. Links for the video stream, audio feed, and live statistics are available at FurmanPaladins.com.

The Paladins (8-9, 2-2 SoCon) evened their conference record with an 82-73 victory over East Tennessee State on Saturday afternoon at Timmons Arena behind 20 points apiece from JP Pegues and Alex Williams. Fellow junior Carter Whitt contributed 14 points, five boards, five assists, and a career-best four steals as Furman won for the 27thtime in its last 30 home league contests.

With leading scorer Marcus Foster (19.8 ppg) having missed the last nine games due to a knee injury, Pegues has paced the Paladins at 17.7 points per game while Williams has added 16 per outing. The Paladins rank second in the league averaging 81.8 points per game as a team, 17.4 assists per game, and 7.5 steals per contest.

After battling through a shooting slump that saw the Paladins connect on just 18-of-111 (16.2%) three-point attempts over a four-game stretch, Furman made a combined 20-of-51 (39.2%) triples in wins over The Citadel and ETSU this past week. Williams leads the Paladins at 39.3% beyond the arc.

Wednesday's game marks the 107th meeting between Furman and VMI with the Paladins holding a commanding 69-37 lead in the series, which dates to the 1938-39 campaign. Last season, Furman downed the Keydets, 85-62, in Greenville before claiming a 94-63 decision in Lexington. The win at Cameron Hall snapped a two-game VMI winning streak over the Paladins in Lexington.

VMI enters Wednesday's meeting at 3-14 overall and 0-4 in the SoCon following a 134-96 loss at Samford on Saturday. The Keydets lost despite shooting 56.5% from three-point range in Birmingham, Ala. Brennan Watkins leads three Keydets averaging in double figures at 15.1 points per game.

The Paladins return home from their trip to VMI to host SoCon unbeatens Western Carolina and Samford in back-to-back games at Timmons Arena. The Catamounts visit Timmons at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, before the Bulldogs come to Greenville on Wednesday, January 24, at 7 p.m. Tickets are available for both games at FurmanPaladins.com.

NOTE: Inside Furman Basketball with head coach Bob Richey will stream live on the Furman Paladins YouTube page today at 2 p.m.
