GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Furman junior Harris Barth (+5) tied for sixth to lead the Paladins to a fifth-place finish Tuesday at the Qubein Cup, which was hosted by High Point at the par 70, 7,130 yard Sedgefield Golf Club in Greensboro, N.C.
A native of Atlanta, Ga., Barth notched three birdies on the front and turned at 2-under. He added a team-high fourth birdie on No. 15 to finish the day with a 72 and conclude the tournament eight strokes behind individual champion Camden Braidech (-3) of Chattanooga, who won the event by three strokes with scores of 66-71-70=207.
The Paladins placed two other players among the top 20, including junior Clark Akers (+6), who finished tenth, and senior Will Morlan (+11), who tied for 20th. Akers shot a 72 with birdies on No. 5 and No. 7 on Tuesday, while Morlan eagled the par-5 No. 5 and added birdies on No. 15 and No. 17 to finish the day with a 1-over 71.
Freshman Ludvig Josefsson (+18) tied for 43rd after shooting a 76 in the final round, while senior Trey Diehl (+19) posted birdies on No. 5 and No. 12 on Tuesday to tie for 50th after scoring a 76 in round three.
Fifth-year student Josh Hebrink (+22), who played as an individual, recorded an 85 in the final round to tie for 58th. Â
Two SoCon schools and three Power 4 teams finished among the top five. Chattanooga (+18) won the tournament by seven strokes over runner-up Texas A&M (+25). Nebraska (+31) took third, followed by Michigan (+32) in fourth. Furman (+37) finished fifth, ahead of many regional foes and Power 4 opponents Penn State (+73) and Virginia Tech (+81).
Furman ranked second with a 4.24 stroke average on the par 4s and fifth with a 4.83 average on the par 5s. The Paladins finished second with 163 pars and tied for fourth with 31 birdies. Barth tied for second with a 4.06 average on the par 4s and tied for fifth with nine birdies, while Akers led the field with 38 pars.
The Paladins will conclude the 2024 fall season this weekend when they entertain 14 teams at the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C. Two rounds are slated for Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. with the final round set for Sunday at 8:20 a.m.
