GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman senior Harris Barth has received an at-large bid to participate in the NCAA Men's Golf Winston-Salem Regional, which will be held May 18-20, at the Bermuda Run Country Club in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Barth becomes the eighth player in Furman men's golf history to earn an individual bid to an NCAA Championship or regional, joining the likes of Phil Small (1974), Brad Faxon (1980, '82, '83), Todd White (1989), Kirk Satterfield (2001), Rob Langley (2005), Keller Harper (2019, '21), and Ross Funderburke ('22), who combined to compete in ten championships or regionals. Â
A native of Atlanta, Ga., Barth earned his third-straight All-Southern Conference citation earlier this week. He leads Furman and ranks fourth in the league with a 71.30 stroke average over 33 rounds. Barth shot 9-under par to win the individual championship at the Bearcat Invitational in October and went on to record three top-six finishes in 11 events this season. He fired a final-round 67 to finish fourth at last week's SoCon Championship will graduate Saturday with a 3.94 GPA in economics.
"What a great opportunity for Harris," said Furman head coach Matt Davidson. "This is a well-deserved selection for the season he has had. I know he is excited about getting to Bermuda Run and competing for a spot in the NCAA Championship!"
Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 18-20. Thirteen teams and ten individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be held May 29-June 3, at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
Teams competing in the Winston-Salem Regional include Virginia, Ole Miss, Pepperdine, Georgia Tech, Southern California, Wake Forest, Mississippi State, Little Rock, N.C. State, Kentucky, Houston, Richmond, Navy, and Presbyterian.
Emil Riegger (Maryland), Tyler Jones (Western Carolina), Kelvin Hernandez (UNC Greensboro), and Dewi John (Charleston Southern) will join Barth in competing as individuals.
