GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman senior Harris Barth will begin competition Monday at the NCAA Men's Golf Winston-Salem Regional, which will be held May 18-20, at the Bermuda Run Country Club in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Barth will tee off of No. 1 at 9:42 a.m. on Monday and will play in a group with players from Presbyterian and Navy.
A native of Atlanta, Ga., Barth earned his third-straight All-Southern Conference citation during his senior campaign. He leads Furman and ranks fourth in the league with a 71.30 stroke average over 33 rounds. Barth shot 9-under par to win the individual championship at the Bearcat Invitational in October and went on to record three top-six finishes in 11 events this season. He fired a final-round 67 to finish fourth at the SoCon Championship and graduated with a 3.94 GPA in economics.
Six 54-hole regional tournaments are being conducted this week. Thirteen teams and ten individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be held May 29-June 3, at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
Teams competing in the Winston-Salem Regional include Virginia, Ole Miss, Pepperdine, Georgia Tech, Southern California, Wake Forest, Mississippi State, Little Rock, N.C. State, Kentucky, Houston, Richmond, Navy, and Presbyterian.
Emil Riegger (Maryland), Tyler Jones (Western Carolina), Kelvin Hernandez (UNC Greensboro), and Dewi John (Charleston Southern) will join Barth in competing as individuals.
