WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. – Furman (+3) notched 13 birdies and an eagle on the back nine to finish as runner-up Wednesday in the final day of the 2026 Southern Conference Men's Golf Championship at the par 71, 6,766 yard Solina Golf Club in West Columbia, S.C.
The Paladins went 5-under in the final round to take second place, marking Furman's highest under head coach Matt Davidson and the highest finish since the Paladins won the championship in 2010.
Chattanooga (-5) won the championship by eight strokes over the Paladins to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Regional. Mercer (+5) finished two strokes behind Furman in third place, while UNCG (+9) and East Tennessee State (+15) completed the top five.
Four Furman players finished among the top 21, including senior Harris Barth (-1) who recorded five birdies on the back nine, including three straight from No. 10 to No. 12, to pace the Paladins with a 67 and surge 10 spots up the leaderboard into fourth place.
Senior Clark Akers (+3) carded an even 71 with three birdies in four holes from No. 13 through No. 16 to conclude the round with five birdies and tie for 12th, while sophomore Ludvig Josefsson (+6) also shot even par Wednesday to tie for 19th. He went 4-under from No. 14 through No. 16 with an eagle on the par-5 No. 15 bookended by birdies on No. 14 and No. 16, to finish the round with three birdies.
Senior Zach Frazer (+7) fired a 1-under 70 with four birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 14 and No. 15, to tie for 21st, while sophomore David Oliver IV (+9) tallied a 79 with a birdie on No. 15, tying for 27th.
Individual champion Kelvin Hernandez (-9) of UNCG set a new course record with a final-round 65 to win the tournament by one stroke and earn automatic regional qualification.
