VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Freshman Jenna Madden (E) is tied for fifth and the Furman women's golf team in fourth place after Friday's opening round of the Evie Odom Invitational, which is being hosted by Old Dominion at the par 70, 5,824 yard Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach, Va.

A native of McKinney, Texas, Madden birdied No. 6 and No. 7 to turn at 1-under.  She added an additional birdie on No. 16 and finished with an even 70.  Madden is two strokes back of Emma Schimpf (-2) of College of Charleston and Notre Dame's Maddy Bante (-2), who each fired a 68 in round one of the tournament.  

Freshman Eva Ringwald (+2) carded a 72 with birdies on No. 6 and No. 16 to tie for 17th, while sophomore Audrey Ryu (+3) and senior Alise Knudson (+3) are tied for 27th after each recorded a 73 on Friday.  Ryu, who posted consecutive birdies on No. 6 and No. 7, led the Paladins with four birdies, while Knudson added three birdies in the round.  

Junior Liza Lapeyre (+6) tallied a 76 with a birdie on No. 16 to tie for 53rd.  Sophomore Kelsi Mauzy (+1), who is playing as an individual, notched three birdies, including back to back birdies on No. 7 and No. 8, to tie for 12th.  

College of Charleston (+2) and Sacramento State (+2) are tied for the team lead after 18 holds.  Notre Dame (+6) is four strokes back in third place, while Furman (+8) sits in fourth place.  Penn State (+10) rounds out the top five.  SoCon foe Chattanooga (+13) is in eighth place. 

The 54-hole tournament continues Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m.  The Paladins will start at 9;20 a.m. on hole No. 1 and will play in a group with Penn State and Old Dominion.  Admission is free and fans are welcome.  Live results will be available at https://results.golfstat.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=participants&tid=29300.
