VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Freshman Jenna Madden (-1) fired a second-round 69 to move into a tie for fourth, pushing the Furman women's golf team into second place after Saturday's play at the Evie Odom Invitational, which is being hosted by Old Dominion at the par 70, 5,824 yard Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach, Va.
Madden, who hails from McKinney, Texas, birdied her first hole and added a second birdie on No. 6 to turn at even par. She posted birdies on No. 10 and No. 12 after the turn to finish the round at 1-under. She sits five strokes behind individual leader Emma Schimpf (-6) of College of Charleston, who holds a two-round score of 68-66=134.
Sophomore Audrey Ryu (+1) paced Furman with a 68 on Saturday. She played a flawless round with consecutive birdies on No. 5 and No. 6 to move into a tie for 11th with one round to play. Freshman Eva Ringwald carded a 71 with a birdie on No. 10 and is tied for 18th, while senior Alise Knudson (+4) also recorded a 71 on Saturday. She tied Madden with a team-high four birdies and is tied for 21st. Â
Sophomore Kelsi Mauzy (+6), who is playing as an individual, tallied a 75 to move into a tie for 29th, and junior Liza Lapeyre (+16) is in 73rd place after scoring an 80 in round two. Â
College of Charleston (+3) holds a four-stroke lead over the Paladins (+7) with 18 holes to play. Sacramento State (+8) is one stroke behind Furman in third, and Old Dominion (+17) and Western Kentucky (+17) are tied for fourth. Power 5 teams Notre Dame (+18) and Penn State (+18) are tied for sixth, one stroke ahead of Miami (+19). SoCon foe Chattanooga (+25) is tied for ninth with Coastal Carolina (+25).
