Greenville, S.C. – The Furman-Wofford rivalry makes its long-awaited return to Timmons Arena on Saturday afternoon when the Paladins entertain the Terriers in a 2 p.m. showdown presented by BMW.
Saturday's game has been designated as a "White Out" and all Paladins fans are encouraged to wear white. The second meeting of the season between the Paladins and Terriers marks the 155
th all-time encounter between the rivals. Furman holds a 91-63 series lead and had won four straight meetings before Wofford claimed a 77-67 decision in Spartanburg, S.C., on January 27. Saturday will mark the first meeting between the schools at Timmons Arena since 2021 after Furman has hosted Wofford at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in each of the last two seasons. The Paladins have won five of the last seven between the teams in Greenville.
Furman (15-13, 9-6 SoCon) currently holds fourth place in the Southern Conference standings following a heartbreaking 74-72 loss at first-place Samford on Wednesday night. The Paladins erased a 10-point second half deficit behind a career-high 33 points from
JP Pegues, but Samford scored the final seven points in the last 40 seconds to maintain its unbeaten record at home.
Pegues, who connected on 6-of-11 three-point attempts and all nine of his free throw attempts at Samford, is averaging 17.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game. Backcourt mate
Marcus Foster enters Saturday's rematch with the Terriers averaging 17.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
Wofford (15-13, 8-7 SoCon) is coming off back-to-back losses to UNC Greensboro (58-47) and Chattanooga (81-65). The Terriers, coach by former Furman assistant Dwight Perry, remains in position to join the Paladins in receiving a first round bye at the SoCon Men's Basketball Championship, which is slated for March 8-11 at Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, N.C.
