Furman To Face Oregon, Virginia Tech In Pair Of Non-Conference Contests

Greenville, S.C. – The Furman women's lacrosse team is set for a pair of non-conference games over the course of three days when it takes on the Oregon Ducks and Virginia Tech Hokies.

Furman travels to Eugene, Ore., for the first time in program history Sunday to face Oregon at 2 p.m. ET. The Paladins then return home to Paladin Stadium on Tuesday, March 12 to host Virginia Tech at 6 p.m.

The Paladins (1-4) are back in action for the first time since March 2 when they dropped a 21-9 decision to 2nd-ranked James Madison at Paladin Stadium. Furman held a 20-16 advantage in ground balls and concluded the contest with 10 draws and forcing the Dukes into 12 turnovers.

Paige Harman tied her season highs of five points, three assists, and two goals to lead the Paladins offensively to go with two ground balls and two draws. Hannah Dintino added two goals, two draws, and two caused turnovers. Sophie Shaw provided two points on a goal and assist. Katelyn Sousa won a team high four draws. In goal, Lily Rathbun had six saves and two caused turnovers, and tied a school record with a career best eight ground balls.

Oregon currently sits at 5-1 on the season and is coming off an 18-3 victory at home over Merrimack on Wednesday. The Ducks have also posted wins this year over Youngstown State, St. Francis (Pa.), Marist, and Rider. Oregon is under the direction of first-year head coach Jessica Drummond.

Virginia Tech is 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the ACC and hosts 5th-ranked Syracuse on Saturday. The Hokies have defeated VCU, Mercer, Queens (N.C.), Louisville, and Elon so far in 2024. Virginia Tech is under the direction of third-year head coach Kristen Skiera.

Furman is facing the Ducks for the first time in program history. The Paladins trail the all-time series to the Hokies, 2-0.

Furman begins a two-game road trip on Saturday, March 16 when it heads to Charlotte, N.C. for a 12 p.m. opening draw versus Queens (N.C.).
