CINCINNATI, OHIO -- Furman's Trey Diehl (E) fired a final-round 69 to tie for tenth and lead the Paladins to a fifth-place finish Tuesday at the Bearcat Invitational at the par 71, 7,279 yard Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Diehl, a senior from Orlando, Fla., teed off on No. 9 in the day's shotgun start and birdied his first two holes, No. 9 and No. 10. He turned at even par then added birdies on No. 1 and No. 8 to finish the tournament six strokes behind the individual champions, Sebastian Moss (-6) of Louisville and Ryan Ford (-6) of Cincinnati.Â
Junior Harris Barth (+2) tied for 17th after also carding a 69 on Tuesday. He posted a team-high five birdies, while senior Will Morlan (+3) shot an even 71 with three birdies in round three to tie for 24th. Â
Freshman Ludvig Josefsson (+10) recorded a 73 with birdies on No. 3 and No. 14 in the last round to tie for 67th, and freshman Max Halflants (+14) added a 75 with birdies on No. 4 and No. 6, tying for 83rd.Â
Louisville (-6) won the tournament by six strokes over host Cincinnati (E). Kansas (+3) finished third, followed by Brigham Young (+6) in fourth. Furman (+8), who ranked second on Tuesday with a 282, tied for fifth with Iowa State (+8). The Paladins finished ahead of Power 5 foe Kentucky (+17 - 11th place) and SoCon opponents UNCG (+21 - T13th place) and Chattanooga (+27 - 15th place).Â
Furman will travel to Dallas, Texas, for SMU's Trinity Forest Invitational, Oct. 6-8.
