GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman sophomore Ludvig Josefsson (-1) is tied for seventh, and the Paladin (+2) men's golf team is tied for fourth place following Saturday's two rounds of the 55th Annual Furman Intercollegiate Presented by Ezelle/Hines Properties at the par 71, 7,131-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.
Campbell (-2) and Stetson (-2) are tied for the team lead, two strokes ahead of Winthrop (E), who sits in third place. The Paladins are tied with Virginia Tech (+2), just four shots off the lead.
Josefsson, a native of Hestra, Sweden, fired a 4-under 67 to pace Furman in the opening round. He teed off on No. 3 in the shotgun start and birdied his first two holes. Josefsson added additional birdies on No. 13 and No. 16 and made his team-high fifth birdie on his final hole, No. 2. He added a 74 with a birdie on No. 9 in the day's second round and is four strokes back of individual leaders Matthis Lefevre (-5) of Stetson and Mason Kucia (-5) of Winthrop, who each have a two-round total of 137.
Senior Clark Akers (+1) is tied for 18th entering Sunday's final round. He carded a 72 with three birdies, including back to back birdies on No. 10 and No. 11 in round one then shot an even 71 with consecutive birdies on No. 2 and No. 3 and a third birdie on No. 15 in round two.
Senior Harris Barth (+2) opened play with a 76 with birdies on No. 2 and No. 5 then surged up the leaderboard after firing a 68 to lead Furman in round two. He birdied three-straight holes from No. 13 through No. 15 and finished the round with four birdies, tying for 24th.
Senior Zach Frazer (+3) recorded a 2-under 69 with a four birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 15 and No. 16 in the day's first round then added a 76 with four birdies, including back to back birdies on No. 10 and No. 11 and again on No. 17 and No. 18. He is tied for 31st with 18 to play. Junior Fisher Kennedy (+2) posted a 76 with a birdie on No. 11 in round one and rebounded with a 73 with three birdies in round two to tie for 56th.
Other Paladins competing as individuals include freshman Cameron Reed (+4), who is tied for 38th after posting a 77 with three birdies in round one and a 69 with a team-high six birdies in round two. Reed birdied three out of four holes from No. 12 through No. 15.
Also among the individuals, sophomore Walter Anderson (+6) scored a 77 with two birdies in round one and a 71 with an eagle on the par-4 No. 3, tying for 50th. Freshman Benton Manly (+11) carded a 73 with three birdies, including back to back birdies on No. 7 and No. 8, in round one and an 80 with a birdie on No. 8 in round two to tie for 80th, while sophomore David Oliver IV tallied a 76 with three birdies in the first round and 87 with a birdie on No. 11 in the second round, placing 87th.
The 54-hole tournament will conclude Sunday with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. Furman will tee off on holes No. 4 through 6 and will play in a group with Virginia Tech and Western Kentucky.
