Furman Readies For Samford, UNC Greensboro This Week

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Furman volleyball team continues Southern Conference play this week when it faces the Samford Bulldogs and UNC Greensboro Spartans.

The Paladins begin the week on Thursday traveling to Samford for a 7:30 p.m. EST first serve before returning to Alley Gymnasium Saturday to host UNC Greensboro at 7 p.m.

Fans can follow the action on www.furmanpaladins.com via live stats. Thursday's match against Samford is being streamed via paid subscription on ESPN+. Updates will be posted on the Furman volleyball Twitter page (@FurmanVB).

Admission to all Paladin home matches this season is free of charge with first-come, first-serve seating.

The Paladins (14-6, 5-3 SoCon) split a pair of conference home matches last weekend, going 1-1 hosting Chattanooga and Western Carolina at Alley Gymnasium. Furman suffered a 3-2 setback to Chattanooga on October 17 before responding the next day with a three-set sweep of Western Carolina.

Lindsay Walch led three Paladins in double figures with 17 kills on .325 hitting in the loss to Chattanooga. Ashley Stein, who was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, poured in her third double-double of the season on 13 kills and 18 digs. Kacie Moore contributed a career high 11 kills on .786 hitting and five assisted blocks along with Tennyson Gorman. Emily Navarro posted her team leading ninth double-double on 29 assists and 15 digs. Kennedy Seekford added a team high 18 digs. Furman concluded the contest hitting .186 and led 63-59 in kills and 60-51 in assists.

The Paladins used a balance offensive attack in the victory against Western Carolina with five players registering six or more kills led by Walch's match high 10 while adding four assists, four digs, three service aces, and three assisted blocks. Gorman added nine kills and four blocks, Ashtan Dodson eight, Moore seven, and Stein six. Stein led Furman defensively with a career high 24 digs. Navarro added 27 assists, eight digs, and three service aces. The Paladins concluded the contest hitting .254 overall and led 47-34 in kills, 45-32 in assists, and 65-57 in digs.

Samford currently sits at 8-11 overall and is sixth in the conference standings with a 3-5 record. UNC Greensboro is 12-7 on the season and tied with Furman at 5-3 in the SoCon. The Paladins trail the all-time series to the Bulldogs, 25-22, but hold a 44-18 advantage over the Spartans.

Furman is on the road next weekend, October 31-November 1, traveling to The Citadel and Mercer.
