DALLAS, TEXAS -- Furman's Clark Akers (-9) is tied for fourth following Monday's second round of the Trinity Forest Invitational at the par 72, 7,617 yard Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas, Texas.
Akers, a senior from Nashville, Tenn., carded a 1-under 71 in round two. He birdied No. 5 and No. 8 to turn at even par then added additional birdies on No. 10 and No. 17. Akers is three strokes behind individual leaders Malan Potgieter (-12) of Louisiana, who blistered the field with a 62 on Monday, and Lukas Boandl (-12) or Rice.
Senior Harris Barth (-5) fired a 68 with a team-high six birdies to lead the Paladins in round two. He birdied No. 3 and No. 5 to turn at 1-under then posted four birdies on the back, including three birdies in four holes from No. 14 through No. 17. He is tied for 12th with 18 holes to play. Senior Zach Frazer (E) shot even par for the second day in a row. He eagled the par-5 No. 2 then added birdies on No. 8 and No. 18 to move into a tie for 35th.
Sophomore Ludvig Josefsson (+6) carded a 74 with four birdies to tie for 68th, and junior Fisher Kennedy (+7) is in 77th place after recording a 76 with a birdie on No. 16.
South Alabama (-23) led the field at 16-under par to move into first place Monday. Rice (-21) is two strokes back in second, just one shot ahead of Southern Cal (-20). Host SMU (-81) sits in fourth, followed by Houston (-13) in fifth. ETSU (-10) is in sixth, one stroke ahead of the Paladins (-9). Â
