GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Coming off a 90-89 overtime home victory over Georgia State on Thursday, Furman's women's basketball team will hit the hardwood again this Sunday when it plays host to Campbell in a 7:00 p.m. contest at Timmons Arena.
Furman (2-2) will be looking to turn the tables on Campbell (2-2) after dropping an 82-72 neutral court verdict to the Camels last year in Atlanta, Ga. Campbell defeated Western Carolina, 66-54, on Wednesday in its last outing.
Raina McGowens' career high 24-point performance, which also included a career high 10 rebounds, was the catalyst in Furman's win over Georgia State. Â The sophomore guard from Pelzer drained a pair of free throws with 20 seconds remaining in overtime to break an 87-87 tie. She is averaging a team leading 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in the early going.
Sophomore forward
Clare Coyle also delivered a career high performance against the Panthers, tallying new highs with 22 points and 17 rebounds. Â With Furman trailing 75-73 in the final second of regulation, she drew a foul under the basket on an inbounds play and was shaken up on the play. Â Her substitute,
Channing Warren, responded by draining two free throws to tie the game at 75-75 and force overtime.
Coyle, a preseason All-SoCon choice, is averaging 12.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
A third Paladin averaging in double figures (12.3 ppg) is sophomore guard
Alyssa Ervin, now in her first season  at Furman after spending last year at Elon.  Her two free throws tied the game at 85-85 with 48 second left in overtime, and six seconds later she tied it again at 87-87 with two more charity shots to finish with 13 points.
Furman compiled a 59-37 edge in rebounding, which helped overcome 32 turnovers against the Panthers.
